Conestoga Greenway Trail
Next up on my exploration of local trails is the Conestoga Greenway Trail. I headed out on a sunny Sunday morning to check it out. There are a couple entrance points to the trail, and I started out at the one on Conestoga Dr. which has a small parking lot and is located behind Conestoga View.
The trail follows along the Conestoga River and is paved the entire way. Much of the trail is pretty nice although there is a stretch of the trail which passes behind some housing developments and along that stretch there were several kids playing and the path was littered with kids bikes and toys. This traffic and clutter forced me to slow down and weave in and out of the mess.
The view of the river is generally partially obstructed by trees, but you’re still close enough to see the river through the leaves. It does open up near the halfway point of the trail where there is a bridge across the river.
The trail ends out at South Duke St. near the lower entrance of County park. Form end to end the trail (measured by my GPS) was just under a mile and a quarter, and I didn’t feel like running it twice, so I hopped in my car and headed over to Overlook Park to do a little more running.
The Conestoga Greenway Trail is OK. I don’t see it making it into my regular rotation.
